MATERIALS:  Worsted weight yarn, H hook (I crochet tightly, so please adjust your hook size accordingly).

SPECIAL STITCHES:  Bullion stitch - Wrap the yarn over hook 7 times, insert hook in st or sp, YO and pull thru all hoops on hook, picking them off one at a time if necessary. Ch 1 to complete bullion st.

Reverse Single Crochet - This stitch is basically single crochets worked in the "wrong" direction.  1. With right side facing and always starting with hook facing downward, insert hook back into next st to right. Pull hook thru twisting hook to face upwards all at same time.  2. YO and pull thru to finish off the single crochet as normally.  3. Insert the hook into the next stitch.  4. Working single crochets backwards makes the stitches twist to create the decorative effect.

SIZE:  Coaster is 4½ in. in diameter.

ROUND 1 - Ch 5, join with sl st to form ring; 8 sc in ring.

ROUND 2 - Ch 2, make bullion st in same sp, ch 1, (bullion st, ch 1) 7 times.  Join with sl st to top of 1st bullion st.

ROUND 3 - Ch 1, *sc in top of bullion st, 2 sc in ch 1 sp*.  Repeat from * to*.  Join with sl st in top of 1st sc.

ROUND 4 - Ch 1, sc in same st, *1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st*.  Repeat from * to *. 1 sc in next 2 sts.  Join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

ROUND 5 - Ch 1, sc in same st and next 2 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts*.  Repeat from * to *. 2 sc in last st.  Join with sl st to top of 1st sc.

ROUND 6 - Ch 2, bullion st in same sp, dc in next 3 sts, *bullion st in next st, dc in next 3 sts.*  Repeat from * to *.  Join with sl st in top of 1st bullion st.

EDGING - Ch 1, reverse sc in each st around.  Join with sl st.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
